More Google Pixel, Pixel XL details leak ahead of official announcement
Google's new Pixel smartphones are finally seeing the light of day today, and thanks to a last moment plethora of leaks, we can confirm that whatever we have heard about the devices so far are true.
Canadian carriers Bell and Telus and British mobile retailer Carphone House's dedicated page for the Pixel and Pixel XL went live accidentally for a few hours revealing official render and specifications of the devices.
The renders show the Pixel smartphones in black and white with 'G' branding on them instead of Nexus confirming the phone will be marketed as Google made instead of HTC (who is manufacturing this year's phone for Google). We can also see the home screen with new UI, on-screen navigation button and rounded icons, all which have been rumored earlier.
As far as the specifications are concerned, the Google Pixel XL carries 5.5-inch Quad HD display with Gorilla Glass 4 protection, and will have a rear mounted fingerprint scanner. Under the hood, there's 2.15GHz quad-core Snapdragon 820 processor with Adreno 530 GPU and 4GB RAM alongside 32GB/ 128GB storage.
There's 12MP rear facing camera with f/2.0 aperture and OIS, and an 8MP front facing camera to handle selfies. It runs Android 7.1 Nougat and a 3490mAh battery keeps the light on, which can be charged via USB Type-C port (fast charge support). The phone measures 154.7mm x 75.7mm x 8.6mm and weighs 168g.
It's smaller sibling, the Pixel will have 5-inch AMOLED display proected by Gorilla Glass 4 and 2720mAh battery. It weighs 143g and will have same thickness of 8.6mm, but the size will be smaller at 143.8mm x 69.5mm. The rest of the specs are identical to Pixel XL.
Not to forget, the Pixel and Pixel XL will come pre-loaded with Google's Duo (video calling) and Allo (messaging) apps, offer unlimited storage for photos and videos with Google Photos, and Google Assistant will be baked into the software.
The new Pixel smartphones will be officially unveiled today at an event in San Francisco that begins at 9am PDT (9:30pm IST)
