- Yesterday we set an incredible record in India by selling more than 1 million smartphones within 18 days.
- India is an extremely important market in Xiaomi’s globalization strategy. It has become our largest market outside of mainland China.
- In the past two years, we have witnessed several exciting milestones in India
- August 2015: We became the first smartphone brand to participate in Prime Minister Modi’s ‘Make in India’ initiative.
- July to August 2016: As per IDC, we became the #1 online smartphone brand in the country.
- September 2016: As per IDC, we became the third-largest smartphone vendor within India’s Top 30 cities with 8.4% market share.
- September 2016: Redmi Note 3 became the best-selling device in the online market with over 2.3 million devices sold in 6 months.
- I am confident that with the sustained efforts of our entire Xiaomi family, we will be able to capture the largest market share in India within 3-5 years! Mi India, let’s make history together.
Xiaomi has been adapting an aggressive strategy in India to make a bigger sales push in the country, since it has been struggling with drop in smartphone sales in its home market China. This year Xiaomi launched a slew of device in the country including Redmi Note 3, Mi 5, Redmi 3S Prime, Mi Max, Mi Band 2 fitness tracker, Mi Purifier 2 smart home appliance and couple accessories like power banks, earphones, Bluetooth speakers and more.
To recollect, Xiaomi forayed into the Indian market with the Mi 3 in partnership with Flipkart. Since then the company has expanded its online presence by partnering with major e-commerce websites in the country including Amazon India, Snapdeal, and also launched its own online store as well. The brand also started selling its products offline via retail stores. In April 2015 Xiaomi even launched Mi 4i its first smartphone exclusively for the Indian market, and last month it launched Redmi 3S+, its first smartphone for the India's offline market, to boost its offline presence.
Currently Xiaomi is hosting its 'Diwali with Mi' sale between October 17 and 19, and is offering discounts and several offers on its devices. We can expect the company to announce more milestones in the coming days.
