Apple's 2017 4.7-inch LCD iPhone 7s will reportedly be a mid-range affordable smartphone
The iPhone 7/7 Plus was released two months ago, but rumors about Apple's plans for next-gen iPhones have not stopped surfacing. Details of iPhone 8, which will mark the tenth anniversary of iPhone is shaping up to be interesting.
Noted KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo previously said that Apple will launch three iPhone models next year ã…¡ 4.7-inch, 5.5-inch with TFT LCD display, and the other a premium 5.5 or 5.8-inch model with OLED display.
In line with earlier reports, Kuo believes that Apple will introduce a premium flagship, redesigned OLED iPhone next year, which will be the iPhone 8, accompanied by two LCD models carrying the same size as current iPhone 7/7 Plus, which will be called iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus with 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch screens.
Kuo says that the 4.7-inch iPhone 7s will be a mid-range or low-end model, and believes that Apple's move to introduce an affordable iPhone is to attract more customers. He predicts this model will account for 30-35 percent of iPhone sale in the fiscal year 2017.
Kuo further predicts that the iPhone 8 with OLED display will make up 50-55 percent of iPhone sale in the 2017 fiscal year. He adds that the 5.5-inch iPhone 7s Plus might also see a price cut after release, since it falls in an 'awkward position' between the affordable 4.7-inch iPhone 7s and the premium model iPhone 8. He predicts the iPhone 7s Plus sales will account between 10 and 15 percent of the new iPhone shipments next year.
Overall, Kuo forecasts that 2017 will be a good year of Apple's upcoming iPhone, with shipments estimated between 90 and 1.10 million units, up from an estimate 75 million in 2016.
Rumors about the 2017 iPhone models have been surfacing even before iPhone 7 was released, which claims, the next iPhone will have a wrap-around screen design, removal of home button and addition of wireless charging technology.
