Marshmallow 6.0 Is Now Being Rolled Out To Xolo Era 4G

Indian handset maker Xolo has now started rolling out Android Marshmallow 6.0 in the form of an OTA update to the Xolo Era 4G.

Launched in February 2016, Era 4G was initially powered by Lollipop at the time of the launch. Having sold more than 1,50,000 pieces of the handset along with Snapdeal, Xolo claims that the Era 4G is amongst one of it's most successful phones under the Rs. 5000 category.Priced at Rs. 4,777, the Xolo Era 4G sports a 5-inch HD IPS display along with Corning Gorilla Glass protection. Supporting multiple regional Indian languages such as Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil and Telugu, the Era 4G also features the Spreadtrum SC9830A quad core processor with each core clocked at 1.5Ghz, 1GB RAM, 5 MP rear camera and 2500 mAh battery. The 2 MP selfie camera has a front flash along with it.

The Android Marshmallow update will increment the Android version on the Era 4G from 5.1.1 to 6.0. Marshmallow brings in the battery saving feature Doze, which will automatically hibernate apps in the background and it will put the device in a deep sleep state when the phone is idle to prevent battery drain. Also included are the ability to control app permissions and Google Now On Tap.

As shown in the screenshot above, with the help of app permissions, you can either grant or deny WhatsApp the access to camera, GPS, contacts, SMS, microphone and storage.

With the help of Google Now On Tap, you can summon Google on any screen just by long pressing the home  button. Google will then automatically scan the screen contents and will deliver rich cards which may either contain more information about the screen contents or may be used to open apps and to carry out other actions.

The update will also bring in various UI changes, bug fixes and performance improvements.
