Qualcomm Snapdragon 835, Snapdragon 660 specs leaked
Last week, Qualcomm silently announced the top-tier Snapdragon 835 SoC, that will be used in top-end flagship smartphones next year. However, apart from the fact that the new chip will be produced using Samsung's 10nm FinFET processor and feature Quick Charge 4.0, the chip maker did not reveal any other details. But a few days back a document detailing possible specs of Snapdragon 835 SoC has leaked online from China.
According to the document the Snapdragon 835 will have model number MSM8998 and will be octa-core chipset (64-bit Kryo 200 architecture), instead of quad-core like the Snapdragon 820/821 chip. The graphics will be powered by Adreno 540.
In terms of connectivity, Snapdragon 835 will integrate LTE X16 modem with support for LTE Cat.16 speeds of up to 1Gbps. It will also add support for UFS 2.1 storage and 4 x LPDDR4 RAM at 1866 MHz.
The leaked document mentions that Snapdragon 835 will be available from the first quarter of 2017, and Samsung's Galaxy S8 will be the first smartphone to use the new flagship processor. Meanwhile, recent reports suggest that Snapdragon 835 will also power Xiaomi's Mi 6, Oppo's Find 9 and Microsoft's Surface Phone.
Apart from Snapdragon 835, the document also mention Snapdragon 660, which is rumored to be an upgrade over the current Snapdragon 652/653 chip. The SD-660 will be an octa-core chip (4 x ARM Cortex A73 CPUs clocked at 2.2GHz + 4 x Cortex A53 CPUs clocked at 1.9GHz), manufactured using Samsung's 14nm process. It will include Adreno 512 GPU and support UFS 2.1 storage and 2 x LPDDR4 RAM at 1886 MHz.
The Snapdragon 660 is expected to ship sometime in second quarter of 2017 and will be used in vivo and Oppo's devices.
