OxygenOS 3.5.5 Brings VoLTE Support To OnePlus 2, Support For Reliance Jio
OnePlus had earlier promised it's users that it would be extending VoLTE capability to it's previous lineup of flagship devices through a small update in the last quarter of this year.
Living up to it's promise 'partly', OnePlus has now started rolling out OxygenOS 3.5.5 to the OnePlus 2 users. Please do note that this is not a community build of OxygenOS and this is hence not a part of OnePlus' beta program.
With Reliance having extended the free services of Jio till March 31, this update should make the OnePlus 2 users rejoice. Following the installation of this update, OnePlus 2 owners would thus be able to use all the services of Reliance Jio on their handsets.
This update comes after a span of more than 3 months since OxygenOS 3.1.0 was rolled out for the OnePlus 2 in September. Here are the changes that this update will bring over OxygenOS 3.1.0:
- Enabled VoLTE functionality for select carriers
- Added App Lock
- Added Battery Saving Mode ( Settings > Battery > More )
- Added Gaming Mode ( Settings > Developer Options )
- Added Additional Options for the Alert Slider.
- Redesign of the Volume Adjustment Bar
- Shelf Optimizations
- Updated OxygenOS UI
- Updated Interface and UI of the Clock app
- Updated Android Security Patch Level to 1/12/16
- Increased System Stability
- General Bug Fixes
OnePlus has also made it a point to highlight the following important issues:
Important:
- Clock, Calculator and Messages will be REPLACED by stock OnePlus apps if you have never updated the corresponding Google apps. But you can download these apps from Google in the Play Store even after the replacement.
- Many of the phone settings will be restored to default after upgrading to 3.5.5, for instance device name, ring tones, accent colours and status bar battery indication will all be reverted to default settings.
- After updating to 3.5.5, basic functions like WiFi connectivity, Network and Fingerprint might be affected if users flash back to 3.1.0. Users will have to use a special 3.1.0 downgrading version and flashing tool that will wipe all data from the phone. You should backup if you want to revert to older versions from 3.5.5 without losing data.
*** To downgrade from 3.5.5 to 3.10, please refer to our Flashing Guide here for the necessary files and steps to perform this process: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1adh17i1Xrm2uo8DI4E7ykWc_8MS9vFF8zsVaQZaIVww/edit?usp=sharing
OnePlus had also promised that it will be extending the VoLTE capability to it's '2014 Flagship Killer' of OnePlus One by the end of the year. However since we are about to get into the last week of this year and the promised stable build of Nougat for the OnePlus 3/3T is yet to be rolled out, an update for the OnePlus One owners seems highly unlikely by the end of this year. Moreover, the OnePlus One users are classified into two cadres: those who have CyanogenOS 13.1 and those who have OxygenOS. With the apparent slump of Cyanogen and with Cyanogen having bidden goodbye to CyanogenOS, the chances of an incremental VoLTE enabling update for the OnePlus One users (having CyanogenOS) seems slim. There is certainly some hope for the OnePlus One OxygenOS owners though. However we do wish that OnePlus caters to all the OnePlus One users and rolls out an update for the '2014 Flasgship Killer' owners soon!
