Samsung Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 edge will directly receive Android 7.1.1

Samsung is already testing Android 7.0 Nougat for Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge through its beta program. Now it is being said that Samsung will skip Android 7.0 Nougat and directly bring Android 7.1.1 to these smartphones.

Although several users of Samsung's Beta program are still testing Android 7.0, it is being reported that Samsung will roll out Android 7.1.1 firmware as a stable build, directly to Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge. Unfortunately it is still not know when the update will officially roll out.

Samsung has already confirmed Nougat treat for Galaxy S6 family, Galaxy Note5, Galaxy A 2016 line-up (A3, A5, A7, A8, A9, A9 Pro), and since Samsung is going for Android 7.1.1 for Galaxy S7/S7 edge, the same can be expected for the aforementioned smartphones.

Meanwhile, according to a report, Sony reportedly wants to be the first OEM to push Android 7.1.1 Nougat to its smartphone and said that releasing the Android 7.1.1 build is the "number one priority" for Sony's developer team. Sony says "If you spot any other vendor (excluding Google) releasing this faster than us, prepare your rotten tomatoes,". The company has already pushed Nougat update to Xperia XZ and Xperia X Performance.

It's worth mentioning that Google recently pushed Android 7.1.1 to Pixel, Nexus and Android One devices. It brings new emojis, GIFs support for keyboard on apps like Allo, Messenger and Hangouts. It also includes app shortcuts, which is Google's version of Apple's Force Touch.
