The December Security Patch Just Went Live!
Nougat 7.1.1 was made official just a few moments back along with the release of the factory images and the build numbers. Android 7.1.1 comprises of the December 2016 security patch and the Security Bulletin has now released more details of the patch.
The December 2016 security patch is divided into the following two levels:
- 2016-12-01: Partial security patch level string. This security patch level string indicates that all issues associated with 2016-12-01 (and all previous security patch level strings) are addressed.
- 2016-12-05: Complete security patch level string. This security patch level string indicates that all issues associated with 2016-12-01 and 2016-12-05 (and all previous security patch level strings) are addressed.
The security patch dated 2016-12-05 will obviously make your device the most secure. Although Google had made the security patch available to the OEMs on the seventh day of the previous month, the security patch level (2016-12-05 or 2016-12-01) your device will be updated to completely depends on the device manufacturer.
Nougat 7.1.1 has already been on the roll to the Android One second generation devices (since 2nd December) and it comprises of the December 5, 2016 security patch. The December security patch, embedded inside Nougat 7.1.1, is now being rolled out to the eligible batch of following devices:
- Nexus 6
- Nexus 5X
- Nexus 6P
- Nexus Player
- Nexus 9
- Pixel C
- Google Pixel
- Google Pixel XL
