Dell announces school friendly Chromebook and Windows 10 based Latitude laptops and covertibles
Dell has introduced new affordable rugged Windows and Chrome OS based laptops and convertibles aimed at the education market. There are total six models ― Chromebook 11, Chromebook 11 Covertible, Chromebook 13 and Windows based Latitude 11, Latitude 11 Convertible and Latitude 13.
Dell Latitude 11 Convertible and Dell Chromebook 11 Convertible
The convertibles feature 11.6-inch HD touch screen display with scratch resistant Corning Gorilla Glass and come with a 360-degree hinge that let you switch between laptop, tablet, stand and tent modes.
The Chromebook model has an Intel Celeron Skylake processor, while the Windows based version comes with the option of Celeron or Pentium chips based on Intel's Kaby Lake. Both models include "world camera" which can be used in tablet mode, 2 x USB 3.0 ports, HDMI port, a headset jack and a microSD card slot. The Wndows based Latitude 11 Covertible comes with an optional active pen for writing and
drawing.
They are designed to withstand daily classroom abuse featuring MIL-ST 810G durability, sealed keybaord and touchpads to protect against accidental liquid spills on the keyboard, and a metal bracket to reinforce power port.
The Chromebook 11 Convertible price starts at $349, while the Latitude 11 Convertible starts at $579 and will be available in the US from February 7.
Dell Latitude 11 and Chrome 11
They have the same configuration and rugged features as the convertible models, but don't get touch display. Instead of 360-degree hinge, both the 11-inch laptop sport 180-degree lay-flat hinge for collaboration between students.
The Latitude 11 price starts at $349, while the Chromebook 11 has a starting price of $219, and will go on sale February 7.
Dell Latitude 13 and Chromebook 13
Both laptops comes with larger display and pack more processing power than the Latitude 11/Chromebook 11 model.
The Latitude 13 Windows laptop will be available with up to Intel Core i5-7200U Kaby lake processor (Skylake options also available), and feature 2 x USB 3.0 ports, an HDMI port, Ethernet Jack, microSD card slot and headset jack.
The Chormebook 13 will be available with up to Core i3 Skylake processor, and ditches the Ethernet jack. Other features are same as Latitude 13.
The Dell Chromebook 13 will be available for $299 and up, and the Dell Latitude 13 Windows laptop for $519 and up starting February 7.
