Google Announces Nougat 7.1.2, Public Beta Images Are Now Up For Grabs
Google has now started rolling out the next maintenance release of Nougat, Android 7.1.2, to the eligible batch of Nexus and Pixel devices enrolled in Android's Beta program.
Talking about the changes introduced with this incremental release, David Burke, VP of Android Engineering, wrote:
Android 7.1.2 is an incremental maintenance release focused on refinements, so it includes a number of bugfixes and optimizations, along with a small number of enhancements for carriers and users.
This update is currently available for the following roster of devices:
- Google Pixel
- Google Pixel XL
- Nexus 5X
- Nexus 6P
There was no mention of the update for the Nexus 6, Nexus 9 and the Android One devices. Nougat 7.1.1 might have been the last update for the Nexus 6 and Nexus 9. As far as the Android One devices go, Google just might have pulled the plug for the second generation of devices. Even if the updates for the second generation devices have been stopped, we did expect Google to take the third generation of Android One devices into the Android Beta program. However there was no mention of Android One at all.
If you have a device which is eligible of getting the update and if you are enrolled in the Beta program, you should be receiving an OTA notification about the update soon. If you would like tobenroll yourself in the Android Beta program, click here to sign up. Or else, you can grab hold of the beta images from here and flash them on your device using ADB.
No beta images are available currently for the Nexus 6P, however Google has said that it will be making the Android 7.1.2 update available for the 6P "soon". As far as the final stable release of 7.1.2 goes, Google has said that it hopes to roll out the stable update to all the eligible users in "just a couple of months".
