Huawei Watch 2 with Android Wear 2.0 confirmed, reportedly coming with cellular connectivity
Huawei unveiled its first smartwatch, the Huawei Watch at MWC 2015, and is one of the most popular smartwatch in the market. Now with Android Wear 2.0 release just around the corner, it appears that Huawei is working on its next gen smartwatch.
The Chinese device maker has confirmed that the company will unveil the successor of Huawei Watch soon with Android Wear 2.0. Speaking to The Indian Express on the sidelines of Honor 6X launch in India, Allen Wang, Director, Product Center, Huawei Business Group, told the publication "You will see the new product very soon. I think in the coming one or two months we will see something new. Yes, it will be powered by Google’s Android Wear software."
A separate report from VentureBeat has spilled beans on what to expect from Huawei Watch 2. Citing sources familiar with company's plan, the report suggests that the new model will have a sportier look than its predecessor, but will retain the 1.4-inch circular display. It will be available in leather or stainless straps.
The main upgrade Huawei Watch successor is getting is an optional model with cellular connectivity with built-in SIM card to enable data connection when out of range of WiFi or paired phone. It will also lets users to make and receive calls. The addition of cellular connectivity, will also enable Huawei Watch 2 to function as a standalone device, while running Android Wear 2.0.
The Huawei Watch 2 is expected to be unveiled at MWC in Barcelona next month.
Apart from Huawei, Google is working on a pair of Android Wear 2.0 smartwatches co-developed by LG, and is rumored to go official on February 9.
