The Xposed Modules That Enrich Your YouTube Experience

YouTube has over a billion users, which is almost one-third of all people on the Internet. Every day people watch millions of hours of the content uploaded on YouTube. Moreover, half of the views on YouTube are driven through mobile devices, 80% of which are powered by Android. There are thus at least 400 million people who browse YouTube using their Android device, with a large fraction of them using the YouTube application.

With a large audience to cater to, one certainly expects YouTube's mobile application to offer a great viewing experience. Even though YouTube's Android application does offer a great set of features with an excellent user interface, there is always scope for improvement. I ardently believe that Google should add more features from YouTube's desktop interface to YouTube's Android app. These features can be the ability to control the speed of the video playback or swipe gestures to control brightness, volume level and seek the video time. Although Google might add these functionalities eventually to YouTube's app, however there is still a way you can get all these features rightaway. To get access to these features, you need to make sure you have the Xposed framework installed on your Android device. This means that you should have a device that is rooted, has an unlocked bootloader and custom recovery installed.

Below we present to you the Xposed modules which will help you in either adding more features to YouTube's Android app or lift certain country specific restrictions.

Video Demo

YouTube SwipeToSeek

This Xposed module allows you to use swipe gestures to forward/rewind and change the volume levels. This module brings it's functions into the play only when you are watching the video in full screen mode. Swiping to the right or left anywhere on the screen will forward or rewind the video respectively, while swiping upwards or downwards anywhere on the screen will increase or decrease the volume respectively.

Moreover, this module works well for both the videos which offer either portrait or landscape viewing experience in the full screen mode. For example, most of our ROM reviews offer portrait viewing angle when you switch to full screen. Meanwhile, several of the image slideshows which we have on our YouTube channel take the landscape angle when viewed in the full screen mode.

YouTube AdAway

As the name suggests, this module removes all the ads from YouTube. You can thus have an ad free experience while browsing across different YouTube videos.

However pleasant it may be for the viewer to watch videos without ads, using this Xposed module is like a double edged sword. Although you may not come across any ads in the YouTube application, by using this module you will be denying the video creator of the opportunities to earn some bucks from the video. I might be sounding a bit biased here, but after having made a ton of videos, I can definitely tell you that it's disappointing when you are not paid for your efforts. In fact, you can relate to this from any walk of life. As a part of our promise to you to bring well researched into articles on different subjects, we are telling you about this Xposed module too. However, in the end, using this Xposed module is your decision only.

Xposed One Tap Video Download

This is an interesting one. If you are used to watching a lot of videos on your Android smartphone, you might be familiar with the fact that in contrary to YouTube's desktop website, the YouTube mobile application does not offer you the option of viewing videos at a customised pace such as 0.25x, 0.5x, 1.5x, 2x, while third party applications such as VLC & MX Player offer this feature. And then there are times when you want to watch videos at a preferred pace. Xposed One Tap video helps us in here. Do make a note here that in order to use this Xposed module with the YouTube application, you will have to install the Xposed One Tap YouTube module too.

Now there are two options which we have in here. You can either use Xposed One Tap Download to download the entire YouTube video and then view it offline, or, you can stream the YouTube video on the video player of your choice.

YouTube Background Playback

This module enables the background playback component of YouTube Red, a service which allows you to listen to the audio from the YouTube videos even when you are using a different application other than YouTube or even if your device's screen is turned off. YouTube Red also allows you to have an ad free experience on YouTue and it also enabled the users to save videos offline. However, YouTube Red is currently available only in select countries at prices starting from . Because this app uses the Xposed framework, it can modify some root level strings in  the YouTube application, courtesy to which YouTube Red can be enabled even in unsupported countries.
