5G is the official name of next wireless technology, gets new logo

3GPP aka 3rd Generation Partnership Project which is Cellular Standards Group has officially announced that the next generation ultra-high speed cellular data technology would be called 5G. It will be the successor to 4G technologies like LTE and LTE advanced.

The group also unveiled the new approved 5G logo as well. The new logo has the same wave pattern used on existing LTE logos, but uses the green color of the LTE-Advanced Pro version to show a consistent evolution of the product. 

“The idea is to keep a familiar design aspect with the use of plain black text and textured waves, but to make the logo stronger and sharper – ready for use on the new radio and next generation core specifications for 5G,” 3GPP said in a press statement.

The launch of 5G is still far away, as the specifications are still being finalized, and is expected to roll out in 2018-2020.
