WhatsApp gets Snapchat-like status message with photos, videos and GIFs
Ahead of its eighth birthday later this week, WhatsApp is introducing a new 'Status' feature to its mobile app. The new feature gives the you the options to add photos, videos, GIFs and emojis to status message, which is similar to Snapchat and Instagram stories.
Users can post the status using the in-app camera by taking a photo or video and overlay it with text, sketches or emojis or all of them. Similar to Snapchat and Instagram stories, the WhatsApp status self-destructs after 24 hours. Prior to the update, users could only write plain simple text and add emojis as status message.
The status updates are end-to-end encrypted and users will be also able to control who can see their status from privacy settings.
WhatsApp Status feature for Android, iOS and Windows Phone users starting with the Netherlands and France. The new feature will soon be available across the globe including India.
