Xiaomi Mi 5c gets official with in-house Surge S1 SoC


After numerous leaks and rumors, Xiaomi has finally announced the Mi 5c (previously codenamed Meri) in its home market of China. The phone utilities Xiaomi's in-house Surge S1 chip, which the company developed in partnership with Pinecone.

The Mi 5c is a mid-range offering sporting a premium metal unibody design , and has a home button on the front, that hides the fingerprint sensor. It currently runs Android Marshmallow, but Xiaomi promised to released Nougat update in March.

The Xiaomi Mi 5c features 5.15-inch Full HD display and is powered by home grown 2.2GHz octa-core SurgeS1 processor (4 x Cortex A5 cores @ 2.2GHz 4 x Cortex-A53 cores @ 1.4GHz) paired with Mali-T860 GPU. It comes with 3GB RAM and 64GB internal storage.

For photography it gets 12MP f/2.2 rear camera with LED flash and 1.25um pixel size and 8MP f/2.0 selfie camera with 27mm wide-angle lens. Connectivity options on-board include dual-SIM support, 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS and USB Type-C. It is fueled by 2860mAh battery with support for 9V/2A fast charging, that promises full day battery life.

The Xiaomi Mi 5c is priced at CNY 1499 ($218 | Rs. 14,560) and will go on sale in China starting from March 3 in Rose Gold, Gold and Black colors.
