Xiaomi Starts Rolling Out MIUI 8.2 To Supported Devices And Sadly It's Not Based On Nougat

As promised, Xiaomi has started rolling out MIUI 8.2 to a wide array of supported devices. The roster of devices which have started receiving the update are as follows:

  • Mi Max/Mi Max Prime
  • Mi 4i
  • Mi 3
  • Mi 4
  • Mi Note
  • Redmi 1S
  • Redmi Note 4G

Xiaomi has also stated that it will be updating some of it's other devices to the latest iteration of MIUI after February 20. These include Redmi 2, Redmi 2 Prime, Redmi Note 3 Qualcomm, Redmi Note 3 Special Edition, Redmi Note 4 MTK, Redmi Note 2, Redmi Note Prime, Mi 2/2S, Mi 5, Mi 5s, Mi 5s Plus, Redmi 3/Prime, Redmi 3S/Prime, Redmi Note 4 Qualcomm, Redmi 4 and Redmi 4 Prime.

We had previously believed that MIUI 8.2 would be based on Nougat 7.0. Our speculations were primarily based on the fact that the Mi 5 had been updated to Nougat 7.0 powered MIUI 8.2 last year. However, disappointingly, this isn't the case with this update. This update is based on Marshmallow 6.0.1.

The new version of MIUI brings enhancements to the layout of the quick settings panel, more control over automated tasks and a bunch of new system sounds and ringtones.
