Samsung Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8+ gets official
Samsung has finally announced the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ flagship, putting all the rumors to rest and the Galaxy Note7 fiasco behind it. The main highlight of the Galaxy S8 series is its sleek bezel-less design.
The Galaxy S8 and S8+ sports larger Infinity Display, which is a bezel-less dual-edge display protected by Gorilla Glass 5 that takes up more than 80 percent of the phones front screen. Thanks to the Infinity Display, the Galaxy S8/S8 Plus boasts an expanded ration of 18:5:9 for a cinematic viewing experience. Both also support HDR video, and are the first in the world to get Mobile HDR Premium certification.
There's an invisible home button embedded underneath the screen, which functions just like a physical button, while Recent and Back buttons can be customized. The phone's fingerprint scanner and heart rate sensor are located on the back. It also includes an iris scanner on the front for facial recognition capabilities.
Samsung's Bixby voice assistant is finally making its debut with the Galaxy S8/Galaxy S8+. It can be activated by pressing the dedicated hardware button or by saying "Bixby". The voice assistant lets users control multiple apps using voice commands. It can also respond to users queries like searching for image, setting reminder, shopping online, getting information, decode QR codes, translate foreign text via phone's camera and more.
The phones comes with a new DeX service, that lets you use the Galaxy S8 like a PC using the DeX docking system.
As far as specifications are concerned, both Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ offer the same set of specs, but are differentiated by the screen size and battery capacity. The Galaxy S8 features 5.8-inch Quad HD+ Super AMOLED display and packs 3000mAh battery. The Galaxy S8+ on the other hand has a bigger 6.2-inch Quad HD+ Super AMOLED display and 3500mAh battery.
The phones are powered by either a Snapdragon 835 octa-core chip or Exynos 9 Series 8895 chip depending on the market. They come with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage, which can be expanded via microSD card. There's also a 6GB RAM/128GB model as well, which is targeted at market, where customers want more RAM and storage on their devices like China.
For photography, the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ comes with 12MP F/1.7 camera with dual-pixel sensor technology, wide-aperture and fast focus, which promises beautiful photos even in low-light condition. On the front there's 8MP f/1.7 camera, with enhanced autofocus features and facial recognition technology that can recognize and track faces to provide clear and focused selfies.
Running Android 7.0 Nougat, the Galaxy S8 Duo are IP68 rated for water and dust resistance and comes with dual-SIM slots, 4G LTE, VoLTE, WiFi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS with GLONASS, USB Type-C port, 3.5mm audio jack, NFC, MFT and fast charging capabilities.
The Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ comes in Midnight Black, Orchid Gray, Coral Blue, Arctic Silver and Maple Gold colors.
Coming to the pricing part, the Galaxy S8 is priced at $750 (Rs. 48,700) and the bigger Galaxy S8+ costs $850 (Rs. 55,000). Both the phone will be available for pre-order starting March 30 and will hit the shelves on April 21. The phones come with earphones tuned by AKG by Harman, which will be available separately for $99 (Rs. 6,500)
