The Timeline Of Android O, How & When It Will Progress Till The Final Release
People expected Android O's Developer Preview(DP) to be out soon and Google came out with a surprise and did a sudden announcement for it. While Nougat's maintenance releases are ongoing with the lastest addition to be 7.1.2 Beta 2, now the focus has totally shifted to Android O. The flashable images have been made available but now, let's try and understand the timeline of releases for Android O that how and when it will progress.
Today is March 21, 2017 which marks the alpha release (DP1) of Android O and the next will be the beta release (DP2) coming in mid May and to be exact the Google I/O might bring it, which will give the initial idea of what Google is planning to bring with the new Android iteration, this is the stage where the features and working will be explored and understood. These two previews will help developers to bring changes to apps to make it compatible for O resulting in easier migration plans.
Next in line will be the DP3 and DP4 which are intended to release with final API's and SDK. These previews will also allow to get the idea of almost final software that Android O will bring in and the behaviour of it could be guessed upon. Not to mention, DP4 specifically, will allow developers publish apps to devices that are running the latest Android but are adviced to bring in with beta stage for testing. DP3 will be coming in June and DP4 after July.
Last but not the least, the final release of Android O will be on roll in Quarter 3 (most probably in September) and till then the final name would be out too, will it be Oreo? Well, thats the matter of time and guesses but let's hope that Google will be firm on this timeline of releases.
