Google Pixel and Nexus phones run into fingerprint sensor issue after Android 7.1.2 update

Google rolled out the new Android 7.1.2 update to Pixel phones, Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P smartphones earlier this month with several improvements and bug fixes. However, it appears like the update has caused some major issues on the phones especially to the fingerprint scanner.

Several Pixel and Nexus owners are reporting the issue regarding the fingerprint scanner, due to which it has stopped working and the phones fail to recognize the authentication hardware.

The users have also tried to resolve the issue by removing pre-existing fingerprints and starting from scratch, but even that has not helped, as an error message pops up, preventing them for adding new fingerprints to the phones.

Google has acknowledged the issue and has opened a thread on the Pixel and Nexus support forum to get more feed back from others who are experiencing the fingerprint scanner issue after the update. Additionally to get to the root of the problem, Google has asked effected users to post the manner in which they updates their device, whether manually or by OTA.

As Google is aware of the situation, we can expect a fix to the Pixel and the Nexus device to roll out soon.
