Pixel Phones will get Android updates till October 2018
Google has updated its end-of-life support page and added the Pixel and Pixel XL phones, which confirms the timeline for Android versions as well as security patch of both devices.
Google's Check & Update your Android version page, previously listed only Nexus devices, but now, the new Pixel phones have made it to the list.
According to the page, the Pixel phone will get Android updates for at least two years starting from when they were first made available on Google Store. "After 2 years, we can't guarantee additional updates," notes the support page. This means Pixel and Pixel XL will be getting Android version update till October 2018, after which there will be no guaranteed update. So it is safe to assume that they will get Android O and Android P.
As for security update, Google is promising it for three years (from when first available on Google Store) or 18 months (from when Google Store last sold the device), whichever is longer and both the Pixel phones will not get guaranteed security update after October 2019.
This is in line with what Google confirmed last year during the Pixel phones launch back in October 2016, that both devices will not get guaranteed software update till 2018.
The page also reveals that users who bought the Pixel phones from Google Store will get the latest Android updates within two weeks, while those who bought them from elsewhere, the update may take longer to reach.
