Samsung Galaxy S8 Active in the works
Samsung's Galaxy S8 already has some rugged features like Gorilla Glass 5 protection and IP68 rating for water and dust resistance. However, the company is said to be working on a more rough and tough model of Galaxy S8, called Galaxy S8 Active. It is codenamed Cruiser and will carry the model number M-G892A.
Active variants are more rugged version of Galaxy flagships, and the company has been offering these model every year. Generally, the Active version comes with tough shells and bigger battery capacity. For instance last year's Galaxy S7 Active boasted U.S MIL-STG 810G certification, meaning the phone was able to survive drops onto concrete slabs, and withstand exposure of high and low temperatures, fog and humidity. It was also shock resistant, and packed a beefy 4000mAh battery, instead of Galaxy S7's 3000mAh battery.
So, nothing less can be expected from the Galaxy S8. However, it will be interesting to see what Samsung's plan is for the Galaxy S8 Active, given that, the Galaxy S8 has a wrap-around display and does not have a physical home button. To recall, the Galaxy S7 Active had three physical buttons on the front, so making Galaxy S8 rugged could involve addressing major parts.
Like previous Active models, the Galaxy S8 Active will be exclusive to mobile carrier AT&T in the U.S and will be released later this year.
