Snapdragon 835 will reportedly power three Google Pixel 2 devices

Earlier reports have suggested that Google plans to launch three Pixel phones this year, codenames of which have been leaked previously. Now a new leak from Android Open Source Project suggests that all three Pixel phones will be powered by Qualcomm MSM8998, otherwise known as the Snapdragon 835, which is hardly a surprise. Snapdragon 835 currently powers a few flagship devices like Samsung's Galaxy S8, Sony's Xperia XZ Premium and Xiaomi's Mi 6.

In line with previous, the new information courtesy of WinFuture.de, that surfaced on AOSP code, also reveals that Google's upcoming Pixel devices will be codenamed Walleye, Muskie and Taimen. Google is sticking with fish names as codenames for their devices.

The Muskie and Walleye are said to be the codenames for the successors of Pixel and Pixel XL, and will have 5-inch and 5.5-inch display respectively. The mysterious third device codenamed Taimen is said to be a larger phablet  (or a Pixel-branded tablet), and could be the company's answer, to Samsung Galaxy S8 (6.2-inch display) or upcoming Note8, or Apple's upcoming premium iPhone 8.

This is not the first time Google will release a phablet sized device, earlier the company had launched Motorola Nexus 6 with a 6-inch display. 

Google has already confirmed that work has begun on the new Pixel phones. They are expected to come with a massive design change and get a waterproof resistance rating of IP68, which was missing in first gen pixel phones. It will also be priced higher than the current Pixel devices.

The first gen Pixel phones were unveiled in October 2016, and this year we can expect the Pixel 2's to arrive at a similar time frame.
