Google Allo gets incognito mode for group chats, chats backup, link preview
Google is rolling out a new update to its messaging app Allo, that brings new features like incognito mode for group chats, backup and restore chats, link preview, and new notification settings.
Starting with incognito mode for group chats, the conversations in the group are now end-to-end encrypted. And also no incoming message notification from the group will be displayed on the lock screen. The new update also offers improved control over message privacy. Now you can set a time limit for how long a message will remain on your or your contact's device. The time limit can be set from 30 seconds to even for 1 day.
Next is the ability to backup and restore chats, which is said to be one of the most requested feature by users. Now you can backup your chats after switching devices, wiping data on your phone or moving to a new device. The chats and media contents stored on your device will be backed up to Google Drive, and can be restored on new devices.
Lastly, Allo is getting link previews feature, meaning when you share or receive a webpage link, you/they will be able to see a preview of the content before opening it.
When Allo was last updated, it go file sharing feature, letting users share documents and other files like .pdf, .docs, .apk, .zip and .mp3 in a conversation
The new features added to Allo, brings it somewhat in line with WhatsApp. The popular messaging app already had these features from a long time. However Allo still has a long way to go, but it has one feature that its rivals are missing - Google Assistant, which lets you interact with the app directly or have one-on-one conversations. The assistant also gives you suggestions and updates about weather, scores and news.
