Microsoft Surface head says "there's no such thing as a Pro 5"

Microsoft has scheduled an event in Shanghai, China on May 23, and it was speculated that the high-anticipated Surface Pro 5 would be announced, but that is not happening.

Microsoft's VP of Surface devices Panos Panay in an interview to CNET told that "there's no such thing as a Pro 5" and the launch will happen only when the company can bring some "meaningful change" to make it a new product. This means we will not be seeing the Surface Pro 5 anytime soon until there's "an experiential change that makes a huge difference in product line."

"When it's meaningful and the change is right, we'll put it on market," Panay said "Meaningful change isn't necessarily a hardware change, which is what a lot of people look for. They're like, 'Where's the latest processor?' That's not what I mean. I'm looking for an experiential change that makes a huge difference in product line." he explained. "You'll see that same meaningful impact when Pro 5, or Pro Next hits the market,"

It appears that Microsoft is delaying the launch of Surface Pro 5, in order to focus on the newly launched $999 (Rs. 64,600) Surface Laptop running the latest Windows 10 S operating system, aimed at the education market.

That said, Panos Panay will be attending the May 23 event in China, and while revealing the event date last week, he used #surface tag, indicating a Surface-related announcement. According to reports Microsoft will give the Surface Pro 4 a Kaby Lake upgrade.
