OnePlus Confirms That The OnePlus 5 Will Be Launching This Summer
OnePlus has confirmed to The Verge that it will be launching it's fifth smartphone, and this year's flagship, later this summer. Although we don't know much about the OnePlus 5 yet, render leaks and the alleged camera samples suggest that the OnePlus 5 will be featuring a dual camera setup at the back.
OnePlus has disclosed a bunch of reasons why the OP 3 and 3T's successor is being named as OnePlus 5, instead of OnePlus 4. OnePlus have apparently been infected by tetraphobia, the practice of avoiding the number 4. Since OnePlus is based in China, the fear of number four is even greater. The Chinese word for the number four is pronounced as 'Si' , which is reminiscent with æ» ( meaning death). Even though the OP 5 will be OnePlus' fifth major smartphone launch after the OnePlus One, 2, X and 3/3T, the company said that this did not factor into the naming. Moreover, a majority of OnePlus employees consider themselves as a fan of former NBA superstar Robert Horry who sported jersey number five.
The OnePlus 5 is thus confirmed. Owing to the massive success of the 3 and 3T last year, OnePlus will have big shoes to fill this time. The OnePlus 5 is expected to sport the Snapdragon 835 chipset, 6/8GB RAM, 5.5" AMOLED display and Nougat 7.1.1 based OxygenOS.\
