Qualcomm's mid-range Snapdragon 660 SoC to launch on May 9

Multiple reports in the past have suggested that Qualcomm is working on a new mid-range Snapdragon 660 SoC. Now the chip will finally see the light of day. Qualcomm has scheduled an event in China on May 9 to introduce and reveal the details of Snapdragon 660.

Previous leaks have suggested that Snapdragon 660 will be manufactured using 14nm node and is expected to be an octa-core processor with four Cortex A73 cores clocked at 2.2GHz and four Cortex A53 cores clocked at 2.2GHz. 

The new chip is also expected to feature Adreno 512 GPU, X10 LTE mode, support for UFS 2.1 flash storage, dual-channel LPDDR4X RAM module clocked up to 1886MHz and Quick Charge 4.0.

The Snapdragon 660 is expected to go on mass production later this quarter, and is likely to be utilized by upcoming budget smartphones from Xiaomi (Redmi Pro 2, Mi Max 2), vivo (X9s Plus, Oppo (R11) and Nokia (7 & 8). We will know more details about the chip next Tuesday.
