The Moto Z2 Play will reportedly be slimmer and pack smaller battery
Motorola is reportedly working on the second generation of Moto Z devices. Last month we got the first glimpse Moto Z2 Play, which like its predecessor, will be the affordable Moto Z device. Now thanks to a new report by Venture Beat, we get to know the specs as well.
The main highlight of the Moto Z Play was its battery capacity. It had a beefy 3510mAh battery, which was fitted inside a 6.9mm thin body. However, according to the new report, the Moto Z2 Play will be much thinner than its predecessor at just 6mm on the thinnest point and weigh 20g less at 145g. The thinner frame will come at the expense of the battery capacity, which is reportedly lowered to 3000mAh. This will also bring down the limited usage time from 50 hours, down to 30 hours.
Coming to the other specs, the Moto Z2 Play will have 5.5-inch Full HD Super AMOLED display, 2.2GHz octa-core Snapdragon 626 chip, Adreno 506 GPU, 4GB RAM and 64GB storage. It will boot Android 7.1.1.
The camera department will rock a 12MP f/1.7 rear camera with dual-Pixel auto-focus and 5MP front facing camera. There's also a fingerprint scanner embedded into the physical button, which now offers a gesture based navigation interface called One Button nav (Swipe to go back, front and more). Obviously, Moto Z2 Play will work with the Moto Mods.
Interestingly, Moto G5 Plus had the exact same specs sheet (except the processor), so it appears that, Motorola is packing the hardware of Moto G5 Plus into Moto Z2 Play's semi-modular body.
The Moto Z2 Play is expected to come in Lunar Gray and Fine Gold color, and announced sometime in the coming months. Motorola is also expected to launch the budget Moto E4, Moto E4 Plus, Moto C and Moto C Plus, along with Moto Z2 and Moto Z Force.
