Android-based Nokia Smartphones Scheduled For Launch In India
HMD is hosting a special Nokia event in India on June 13. We believe that Nokia will release its three Android-powered smartphones- Nokia 6, Nokia 5 and Nokia 3 during this event. Nokia had previously stated that it would be bringing the three mobiles in the second quarter of 2017 but never confirmed the date. Nokia has also sent out a press invite with "Save the Date" for June 13. All the above facts seem to confirm the hope that Nokia will release its own arsenal of Android-powered phones on the specified date- June 13.
Although the company is well known, the three phones will face severe competition in the Indian market. With all the other companies releasing mobiles with promising features, Nokia's tech will have a hard time in the market unless the buyers see something unique and appealing in it. India's smartphone market is currently dominated by foreign companies like Samsung, Xiaomi, Vivo etc. In such a state, Nokia's pricing can play a very vital role in its success.
All three of Nokia's smartphones are mid-ranged in price. Nokia 6 is the best among the trio, like the higher number suggests. Nokia 6 features a 5.5 inch (1920 x 1080) display. It is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 coupled with 3GB RAM and 32GB internal storage which can be further expanded via microcard SD. The phone features a 16MP rear camera and an 8MP front camera. Its price is estimated to be EUR 229 (approx. 16,000 rs).
The "mid-ranged phone" of the mid-ranged trio is the Nokia 5 which comes with a 5.3 inch HD display protected by Corning Gorilla glass. It runs on Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 processor coupled with 4GB of RAM and 16GB storage. It shoots with a 13MP rear camera and an 8MP front camera. Nokia 5 will be available for EUR 189 (approx. 13,300 rs).
The most affordable Nokia 3 features a 3 inch display protected by Corning Gorilla Glass. It is powered by MediaTEK MTK 6737 processor coupled with 2GB RAM and 16GB internal memory. Both the rear and the front camera are of 8MP. Nokia 3 will retail at a affordable price of EUR 139 (approx. 9,800 rs).
Nokia's new smartphones will run on Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box. HMD Global previously used Nokia 3310 as its trump card against all the smartphone sellers to come back into the game. But now, the success of Nokia 3, Nokia 5 and Nokia 6 will determine the fate of HMD.
