June Security Patch Is Rolling Out To Android One, Nexus & Pixel Devices, OTA & Factory Images Available
Google releases a new security patch for the supported Nexus, Pixel and Android One devices on the first Monday of every month. Since yesterday was the first Monday of this month, Google has released the June security patch. If you own a Nexus, Pixel or Android One device which is currently supported by Google for software updates, then you will be receiving an OTA notification about the June security patch soon.
The build numbers for this month's update are as follows:
- Nexus 6P: N2G47W
- Nexus 5X: N2G47W
- Nexus 6: N6F27E
- Nexus Player: N2G47X
- Nexus 9 LTE: N4F27E
- Nexus 9 Wi-Fi: N9F27C
- Pixel C: N2G47W
- Google Pixel/Pixel XL: NJH47B, NHG47N (Verizon), NJH34C (Deutsche Telekom), NKG47L (T-Mobile, Fi carriers, and Rogers)
Except Nexus 6, Nexus 9 LTE and Nexus 9 Wi-Fi, the factory images of all the other devices listed above are based on Nougat 7.1.2. Google had confirmed in January that it won't be supporting the Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 (both LTE and WiFi variants) for major Android upgrades. The factory images of Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 are based on Nougat 7.1.1.
Google Pixel's Community Manager- Orrin stated that the June security patch should fix the freezing issues reported by Pixel and Pixel XL owners.
"There is a fix included in the June security update that should address many of the freezing issues that have been reported. The update is starting to roll out via OTA today and will continue to roll out over the coming weeks.
Freezing and general device performance issues can be caused my many different things, so please continue to update this post with your individual experiences after accepting the June security OTA."
Just like security patch levels have been divided in the past, this month's security patch is also divided into two levels.
- 2017-06-01: Partial security patch level string. This security patch level string indicates that all issues associated with 2017-06-01 (and all previous security patch level strings) are addressed.
- 2017-06-05: Complete security patch level string. This security patch level string indicates that all issues associated with 2017-06-01 and 2017-06-05 (and all previous security patch level strings) are addressed.
Your device will be more secure if you receive the update to the latter patch level. Nexus, Pixel and Android One devices will be receiving the June 5 security patch. The factory and OTA images of the update for Nexus and Pixel devices can be found in the sources linked below.
