Moto G4 Play starts receiving Android 7.1.1 Nougat
The latest Motorola smartphone to taste Android Nougat is the budget Moto G4 Play. The company had earlier promised that Moto G4 Play would get Nougat this month, and it has kept its promise. The good news is that the device is being directly updated to Android 7.1.1, making it one of the few phones out there running this version.
The update weighs around 638MB and is currently rolling out in Brazil and bumps the software version to NPI26.48-8. It is rolling out over the air in phases, and it will get a wider release soon, and expand to more region including India and Mexico in the coming days.
Android Nougat for Moto G4 Play brings features like Google Assistant, Multi-window support, App shortcuts, improved doze mode, new system icons and more, along with the bug fixes, performance improvements and the latest June 2017 security patch.
Normally you get notified about the update, but if you've not been automatically notified yet, you can try checking manually by going to Settings » About » Software update. Before downloading the update make sure you're connected to a WiFi or LTE network, and you device is at least 50 percent charged.
The Moto G4 Play is a pretty decent and affordable offering from Motorola. The specs include 5-inch HD display, Snapdragon 410 chip, 2GB RAM, 16GB internal storage, 8MP/5MP cameras, 4G VoLTE and 2800mAh battery. It was launched in India back in May 2016 at Rs. 8,999, but is now available for Rs. 7,999.
