Moto Z2 Play gets official with slim design and 3000mAh battery

After the mid-range Moto G5/G5 Plus and the affordable Moto C/C Plus, Motorola's latest smartphone offering is the upper-mid-range Moto Z2 Play. It is part of the Moto Z line, which sports semi-modular design, and supports the modular accessories called Moto Mods, that snaps to back of the device via magnetic pins to give it extra functionality.

The Moto Z Play sports the same aluminum unibody design as its predecessor, but gets some minor upgrade in the specs department. It also gets a water-repellent nano coating to resist light splashes. Moreover it is slimmer than its predecessor, having a slim profile of just 5.9mm.  Even though it is very slim it does not misses out on 3.5mm audio jack, microSD card slot, dual-SIMs slot or beefy battery capacity. In fact it has separate slots for dual-SIMs and microSD card. The fingerprint sensor is embedded into the home button, just like Moto's recent offerings.

In terms of specifications, the Moto Z2 Play comes with 5.5-inch Full HD Super AMOLED display with Gorilla Glass 3 protection and is powered by octa-core Snapdragon 626 processor, and will be offered in two versions: 3GB RAM/32GB storage and 4GB RAM/64GB storage. The storage is expandable via microSD card.

The camera department includes 12MP f/1.7 rear camera with dual-pixel auto-focus, laser auto focus, dual-tone LED flash, and 4K video recording capabilities. On the front it gets 5MP f/2.2 camera with dual-tone LED flash as well.

Connectivity duties are handled by 4G with VoLTE, WiFi 802.11a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2, NFC, GPS and USB 3.1 Type-C. It runs Android 7.1.1 Nougat and is fueled by 3000mAh battery backed by Turbo charging that lets you charge the phone up to 50 percent in just 20 minutes. Motorola promises up to 30 hours of run time on a single charge.

The Motorola launches in Brazil today for R$ 1,999 ($616 | Rs. 40,000), and comes in Lunar Grey, Nimbus Blue and Fine Gold hues. It will also be available in the US starting at $499 (Rs. 32,000). There is no word on India pricing and availability.
