New OxygenOS betas for OnePlus 3/3T brings Ambient display 2.0, new fonts and more
OnePlus recently discontinued the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T globally (except India, China and few other markets) to make way for the OnePlus 5. However, it promised to push software updates to the devices.
Now OnePlus is testing a few new features for the OnePlus 3/3T. The latest OxygenOS open betas: Beta 8 for OnePlus 3T, and beta 17 for OnePlus 3, brings several new features, UI improvements, optimizations, Android Security patch for May and more.
Here's the full list of change from OnePlus:
- New additions:
- Ambient display 2.0
- Lift up display
- Sharing functionality for Shot on OnePlus
- All new OnePlus Font (Available in English, Chinese, and Japanese only)
- UI Improvements:
- Gallery v1.7
- Recorder v1.6
- Weather v1.7
- File Manager v1.7
- Other UI refinements
- Optimizations:
- Enhanced launching speed of 3rd-party apps
- Optimized management of foreground and background processes
- Other changes:
- Setup wizard adjusted to suit the style of Android 7.1
- Refined contact import process from SIM card, now supports dual numbers and an email address
- Automatically add corresponding country codes when making calls during roaming
- Updated Android Security Patch level to 1st May 2017
- Ambient display 2.0
- Lift up display
- These two are a new implementation of Ambient display, meant to help stop accidental wakes while pulling the phone out of your pocket. Activation of the screen now requires a “double tap” action. While lift up display does exactly what it says, it turns on the screen to peek at notifications when the device is lifted.
- Sharing functionality for Shot on OnePlus
- You are now able to share the cool pictures you find in the Shot on OnePlus section in wallpapers
The update size is around 131MB for both OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T, and is rolling out over-the-air if you're on a previous beta build. If not, you've to manually flash this beta build, by downloading the update file from downloads.oneplus.net.
