Motorola Is Updating The Moto Z Play To Nougat 7.1.1

Motorola's modular phone Moto Z Play was launched in August last year with Marshmallow 6.0.1 on-board. The company later upgraded the phone to Nougat 7.0 in January and is now upgrading it once again, this time to Nougat 7.1.1. The full description of the update from Motorola is as follows.

INTRODUCTION

We are excited to announce a new software update for Moto Z Play. This update brings important improvements to your phone.

NOTE: You cannot downgrade to a previous software version after installing this update.

ENHANCEMENTS

This update introduces changes including the following:

• Android™ 7.1.1 Nougat: Many enhancements including new multitasking features, more efficient notification controls and improved data saver and battery features.
• Video calling: Duo is a one-to-one video calling app for everyone – designed to be simple, reliable and fun so you never miss a moment.
• Android security: Includes the updates of Android security patches until June 1st 2017.
• Stability improvements: Includes changes that fix bugs and improve the stability of your phone.
• Moto Mods™ support: Updates the Moto Mods platform to the version 2.0.

Moto Z Play users are receiving the June security patch ahead of the Nexus, Pixel and Android One users. Google will be releasing the patch tomorrow for their stock Android devices.

The update is being rolled out via OTA and may take some time to reach your device. You can check for the update manually by heading to Settings > About phone > Check for updates.
