HMD Global CEO Arto Nummela steps down

HMD Global, the Finnish company that owns the rights to manufacture and market Nokia branded devices, has announced that its CEO Nummela is stepping down from his role and leaving the company with immediate effect. Floran Seiche, HMD Global's president has been appointed to the additional role of acting CEO.

The company hasn't revealed many details regarding Nummela's departure, and states that it was “by mutual arrangement” between him and the HMD Global Board of Directors.

In a press  statement announcing the management changes, Sam Chin HMD Global's chairman of the board said “Arto Nummela has played a key role in the creation of the HMD Global operation, building the team and launching our first products. On behalf of the whole Board, I thank Arto for his contribution and wish him well in his future endeavors,” 

Before his stint with HMD Global, Nummela was the Vice President at Microsoft Mobile Devices Sales group in Greater Asia, Middle East and Africa region. He was also part of Nokia team starting from 1994.

His exit from the company, comes as a shock, especially at a time when HMD Global is gearing up to launch its first high-end flagship, the Nokia 8, which is expected to be announced on July 31.

Earlier this year, HMD Global resurrected the Nokia brand, and introduced four devices which includes the 2017 edition of Nokia 3310, and Android smartphones: Nokia 3, Nokia 5 and Nokia 6. The company also recently confirmed an exclusive partnership with "Carl Zeis", with the aim to bring the best photography experience on Android smartphone.
