Jio subscriber details of over 120 million users leaked online
In what appears to be the biggest data breach in India, a website called magicapk has leaked data of over 120 million Reliance Jio users which includes names, mobile number, email-id, circle, SIM Activation Date and Adhaar Number. In some cases, the Adhaar number and email ID is not displayed.
The magicapk website was created on May 18 and there are no details about its owner. However, the website has been suspended and is no longer accessible.
Jio says the hacking and data leak claims are “unverified and unsubstantiated” and it is investigating the matter.
In a statement to the media regarding the data breach Relaince Jio says: We have come across the unverified and unsubstantiated claims of the website and are investigating it. Prima facie, the data appears to be unauthentic. We want to assure our subscribers that their data is safe and maintained with highest security. Data is only shared with authorities as per their requirement. We have informed law enforcement agencies about the claims of the website and will follow through to ensure strict action is taken.
Even though Jio is claiming that the data posted on Magicapk is not authentic, and customer details are safe, the website is able to show correct information about the users. It is still unclear why the data has been leaked or how some outside Jio got access to it.
Reliance Jio has over 100 million customer, and if the data breach affects all Jio customer, then it might be the biggest ever data breach in the country.
