Samsung's Galaxy Note7 returns as Galaxy Note Fan Edition

It's finally official. The Galaxy Note7 is rising from the dead under a new moniker  "Galaxy Note Fan Edition (FE)". Samsung has made the official announcement, and the refurbished variant will go on sale in home market of South Korea on July 7.

The Galaxy Note Fan Edition has been priced at 699,999 Korean won ($611 | Rs. 39,500) , which is much lower and 40 percent less than the original Galaxy Note7's $1,000 price tag. 

The South Korean tech giant plans to sell just 400,000 units in its home market. The company also said that it would decide whether to release the refurbished edition oversees.

To recall, the Note7 was discontinued following reports the device's battery was overheating while charging and started catching fire. Samsung says the Galaxy Note Fan Edition is made by utilizing unopened and unused Note 7 parts, which it describes as environmentally friendly project to minimize the waste of resources.  

On the Note Fan Edition, the company has fitted a new 3200mAh battery, which its says has gone through the new eight-point battery safety check to ensure it doesn't overheat. To recall the original Galaxy Note7 packed 3500mAh battery.

Apart from the battery, the Galaxy Note Edition will also support 'Bixby Home' and Bixby reminder and adopt the same UX as Galaxy S8/S8+, so it is likely to run Android Nougat. However, there's no dedicated hardware button to access Bixby.

Similar to previous Galaxy Note line, the Galaxy Note Fan Edition will come with the signature 'S Pen'. It will have the same design including the IP68 rating for water and dust resistance as the original Galaxy Note7, and include biometric authentication tools like iris and fingerprint scanner.

Samsung did not reveal much about the rest of the hardware, but it is likely to be the same as Note7. To recap the specs, the Galaxy Note Fan Edition will feature Samsung's Exynos 5.7-inch QHD Dual edge Super AMOLED display, Exynos 8890 chipset, 4GB RAM, 64GB storage, 12MP/5MP cameras and USB Type-C port.

The Galaxy Note Fan Edition has a 'Fan Edition' logo at the rear panel and will come in Blue Coral, Gold Platinum, Silver Titanium, and Black Onyx colors.
