JioPhone pre-bookings kicks off 5:30pm today at Rs. 500

The highly anticipated 4G VoLTE enabled JioPhone will finally be up for pre-order today. Pre-bookings kicks off at 17:30 (5:30pm) later today and can be done in three ways through MyJio app, official website, or authorized Reliance Jio offline retailers.

As for the deposit, earlier it was said that Relaince Jio will collect one-time refundable security deposit of Rs. 1,500. But that's not the case anymore. The company will collect the payment in two parts: Rs. 500 at the time of pre-booking, and the remaining Rs. 1,000 at the time of the handset's delivery or pickup. It's worth mentioning that, JioPhone is effectively fee, but the company is collecting the security amount to avoid potential misuse, and will refund it after three years (JioPhone should also be returned).

To book JioPhone, open MyJio app and tap on the Prebook Now option. Next enter your mobile number and the PIN Code of the area you want the phone to be delivered. Click proceed and make the payment, and once confirmed you'll get a booking ID on the app as well as SMS, which you will have to provide to the designated retiler while picking up the handset.

To recap the specs, the JioPhone has 2.4-inch QVGA screen, Alphanumeric keypad, four-way navigation key, torchlight, 2MP rear camera, VGA front camera, 4GB internal storage, microSD card slot, FM Radio, headphone jack and support for 22 Indian languages, SOS function and NFC support. It comes pre-loaded with voice-activated Jio Assistant, built-in browser, Jio Cinema app, and also gives access to live TV with up to 400+ channels.

To take full advantage of JioPhone's services, you have options to buy a monthly plan of Rs. 153 or two sachet plans: Rs. 54 per week and Rs. 24 for two days. All these plans offer unlimited voice calls, SMS and data (w/ 500MB FUP per day). 

The JioPhone will be available in limited quantities initially, so it will be distributed on a first come first serve basis, which means those who register early, will have a chance to get it early. Shipping will begin mid-September.
