Nokia 3 Passes JerryRigEverything's Durability Test
Nokia is one of the brands which is reminiscent to durability as BlackBerry is to security. HMD Global recently released the trio of Nokia 3, 5 and 6 in India, out of which the Nokia 3 was the cheapest. Popular YouTuber Zack who runs a YouTube channel by the name JerryRigEverything is known for testing the durability of smartphones with tests which include scratching, burning the screen and bending the device. The results of these tests give us an idea of how long the device is going to last in the future and whether there are any precautions that can be taken to enhance the longevity of the device.
Zack put the Nokia 3 to the test recently. The Nokia 3 scratched at a level six which is in line with other smartphones barring the sapphire edition of the HTC U11 which scratched at level eight. The Nokia 3 sports Gorilla Glass 3 to protect its 5-inch 720p display. The front facing camera and navigation buttons at the bottom are placed under the hood of the glass which lends them protection against scratches. Zack found out the earpiece to be "loosely adhered in place" and he believes that the earpiece is likely to fall out over time.
The budget segment Nokia 3 is made out of plastic barring its sides which are made of metal including the buttons. The camera lens at the back of the device is also made of plastic and hence was easily scratched by Zack in the scratch test. Since the rear camera lens lacks a rim, the lens is susceptible to scuffs from keys and coins in the pocket. It is advised that you purchase a case for the device to aid the back lens from scratches.
The 5" IPS HD display of the Nokia 3 lasted ten seconds under Zack's burn test before its pixels started turning to black. Once the heat was removed the pixels recovered and the screen was cool to touch within seconds. Coming over to the bend test, the Nokia 3 proved to be extremely durable even though its just a budget smartphone. The device didn't flex even when it was bent hard from both the front as well as back.
Leaving out the plastic camera lens at the back and the poorly attached earpiece, the Nokia 3 is one of the most durable phones you can get your hands on. The Nokia 3 is priced at Rs 9,499. The smartphone sports 5" IPS HD display, 2GB RAM, Mediatek 6737, 16GB onboard storage which can further be expanded via microSD, 8MP selfie shooter, 8MP rear camera and 2630mAh battery.
