Nokia 8 goes official with dual 13MP carl zeiss camera
HMD Global, the new house of Nokia, resurrected the Nokia brand earlier this year, with the launch of three Android smartphones. Unfortunately all these were budget devices, and what fans were craving for was a top-end flagship device. The wait is finally over.
As expected, the company at an event in London has unveiled the Nokia 8, which comes as the first true Nokia flagship running Android. However, it does not boast any killer feature like bezel-less design or squeezable edges, instead it just packs the basic hardware you did find in this years flagship smartphone including dual-cameras into a premium body.
Design-wise Nokia 8 sports a Series 6000 aluminum unibody with mirror finish and has IP54 splash resistance rating. Color options include Polished Blue, Tempered Blue, Steel and Polished Copper. The home button below the display houses the fingerprint sensor, and is flanked by old-school capacitive back and menu buttons on either sides. The device runs pure stock Android Nougat with no bloatware, and Nokia promises Android O update as soon as the final build is ready, as well as monthly security updates.
In terms of specifications, the Nokia 8 comes with 5.3-inch QHD LCD display with Gorilla Glass 5 protection, and is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 835 Mobile Platform with Adreno 540 GPU and 4GB RAM. On-board storage is 64GB, and is expandable via microSD card.
For photography, the Nokia 8 flaunts dual 13MP cameras (Color + Monochrome sensor) at its rear, with Carl Zeiss optics. It offers OIS (optical image stabilization and 4K video recording). For selfies you get a 13MP shooter at the front that is capable of recording 4K videos.
The phone's camera app comes with a feature called "Dual-Sight" mode (boathie), that lets you use both front and back cameras simultaneously for split-screen photos and video. This feature also lets you stream directly to Facebook and YouTube Live as well in real-time.
Connectivity duties of Nokia 8 is handled by dual-SIM slots (hybrid), 4G LTE, VoLTE, WiFi 802.l1ac, Bluetooth 5.0, USB Type-C port, 3.5mm audio jack and GPS. A 3090mAh battery backed by Qualcomm's Quick Charge 3.0 runs the show. It also include Nokia OZO surround sound for 3D audio capture
The Nokia 8 has been priced at 599 Euros ($700 | Rs. 45,000), and will hit major markets in early September. It is expected to arrive in India by late September or early October.
