Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Is Official With 6.3" QHD+ S-AMOLED Display, 6GB RAM, Dual Camera & More
It's finally here. The successor to the ill-fated Galaxy Note 7 was made official by Samsung in an event in New York which was also streamed live. The Galaxy Note 8 was not much of a mystery since we got to know almost everything about it before its launch event. The smartphone was leaked multiple times revealing its specifications, renders in different colors; in fact dbrand even started offering Note 8 skins in July.
Coming over to the hardware specifications, the Galaxy Note 8 features six gigs of RAM along with the Snapdragon 835 (USA and China, region dependent) or Samsung's in-house Exynos 8895 (region dependent). The device is fueled by a 3300mAh battery, which is 5% lesser in capacity than the Note 7 which was recalled twice by Samsung due to its faulty battery. The phone does feature a not-so-common-these-days headphone jack and Samsung didn't miss out the opportunity of taking a jibe at its arch rival Apple for ditching it. The usual feature of the Note series - the S Pen - is present as well, of course! Samsung says that as compared to the two-year old Galaxy Note 5 the S Pen is more pressure sensitive, has more functionalities (demonstrated in the video atop) and is water resistant. The device is IP68 certified which makes it dust/water proof over 1.5 meters and thirty minutes.
The highlight features of the Note 8 are its dual camera setup at the back and its display. Samsung has enlarged the infinity display from S8 to make it 6.3" long along the diagonal. This is the largest sized smartphone Samsung has ever produced till date. Samsung explained its move to go for a larger display for the Galaxy Note 8. The company stated that it concluded from the analytics of Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus users that the S8 Plus users spend forty minutes more time on their smartphone as compared to the smaller sibling S8. Another research done by Samsung mentioned that the Note owners are forty percent more likely to multitask. The Super-AMOLED display has a QHD resolution (1440X2960) with a dazzling screen to body ratio of 18.5:9. The second major highlight of the Note 8 is its camera. The device sports a 8MP (/f1.7) selfie shooter along with two-12MP shooters at the back. Both the rear cameras feature OIS and have apertures of /f1.7 and /f2.4 along with 2x optical zoom and a dual tone flash. Samsung has also introduced 'Live Focus' which allows you to customize the blur amount while capturing a photo.
The Note 8 is powered by Nougat 7.1.1 with Samsung's GraceUX on top of it. Samsung's proprietary features such as the Bixby assistant are present and yes, there is a dedicated hardware button for accessing Bixby. The phone will be available in four colors - black, grey, gold and blue. The pricing starts at $930 in the United States. As an early owner bonus, you can get your hands on a Galaxy 360-degree camera or a combination of 128GB microSD and a fast wireless charger. In UK the pricing starts at £869; in the rest of the European region it costs £869, CA$1300 in Canada and AU$1500 in Australia. Pre-registration information can be found in the source linked below.
