Verizon Pixel And Pixel XL Are Now Receiving Oreo 8.0 Update
Last week Google confirmed Android 8.0 as Oreo and started rolling out the Android 8.0 update to the unlocked variants of Pixel and Pixel XL along with various Nexus and Android One devices. Now Verizon has commenced the roll out of the Oreo update to the Pixel and Pixel XL purchased from it.
Usually updates to carrier bound devices are slower than the unlocked models because carriers have to undertake the additional step of certifying the update for the device they sell. The carriers have to take this step even after the update has been approved by the device manufacturer. Although carrier locked devices get the update later, there is no difference in the software experience on an unlocked and carrier locked device. You will hence get the same stock version of Oreo 8.0 on a Verizon Pixel/XL as you would get on an unlocked one.
The build number of the update is OPR6.170623.012 and it comprises of the latest August 5 security patch. Verizon advises you to completely charge the battery of your Pixel/XL before installing the update. You can refer to the source linked below for more information about the update.
