ZTE Maven 2 $40 smartphone starts receiving Android Nougat

The ZTE Maven 2 is a dirt cheap smartphone priced at just $40 and is exclusive to mobile carrier AT&T in the U.S. The phone offers low-end hardware, and shipped with Android Marshmallow, and surprisingly is now getting Android Nougat treatment, bumping the system version from 6.0 to 7.1.

AT&T is rolling out Android 7.1.1 update to Maven 2 with firmware version Z831V1.0.0B29 and the software package weighs in at 1.16GB. Since this is a major upgrade, make sure your device is fully charged and connected to Wi-Fi.

The update will bring native Android Nougat features and improvements and comes with June 1 security patch level. It also removes AT&T Address Book app, and adds AT&T App Select.

To recap the specs, the Maven 2 features a 5-inch FWVGA (480 x 854 pixels) display, 1.1GHz quad-core Snapdragon 210 processor, 1GB RAM, 8GB internal storage, 5MP/2MP cameras (front and rear) and 2300mAh battery.
