Airtel 4G VoLTE service goes live in India starting with Mumbai
After Reliance Jio, Airtel is the second telecom operator to launch its VoLTE (Voice over LTE ) service in India. Initially the VoLTE services will be live in Mumbai only, and Airtel plans to roll out the service across the country over the next few months.
Airtel VoLTE, which works over 4G, will let the company's subscribers to enjoy HD quality voice calls along with faster call set up time. Another benefit of VoLTE service is that you'll be able to continue your 4G speed Internet session, while the call is in progress.
The company said that VoLTE service will be available on most 4G-LTE enable mobile devices with an Airtel 4G SIM. Customers with dual-SIM phone have to ensure that Airtel 4G SIM has been inserted in the SIM slot 1, and network mode has been set as "4G/3G/2G (Auto)". Users can call any mobile and landline network using VoLTE.
Airtel also listed select mobile devices that will support its VoLTE service – iPhone SE / 6 /6plus/ 6S / 6S plus/7/7plus; Samsung J700 / A800/J2 Pro/J2 2016; Xiaomi MiMax Prime / Redmi Note 4 / Mimax / Mi5; Gionee A1, Oppo F3 plus.
It's worth mentioning that voice calls on VoLTE network are made using data, and Airtel says there will be no additional data charges for VoLTE, and calls will be billed as per your existing plan or pack benefit.
