Android Nougat is now running on 15.8 percent of active devices
Another month, and Google is out with updated Android distribution numbers for the month of September. As per the latest figures, Nougat continues to gain this month, Marshmallow is on the decline, but is still the most widely-used Android version, and there's no sighting of the latest Oreo yet, but it can be expected to debut next month.
Starting with Nougat, it is now running on 15.8 percent of active devices out there, an increase of 2.5 percent than last months 13.5 percent share. This can be further broken down as 14.2 percent for 7.0 Nougat and 1.6 percent for 7.1 Nougat.
Android Marshmallow, which was present on 32.3 percent devices last month, had a slight drop of 0.1 percent to 32.2 percent. As for the other Android versions, Lollipop dropped down to 28.8 percent from last month's 29.2 percent share (down 0.4 percent), while KitKat adoption rate stands at 15.1 percent, compared to last months 16 percent, down 0.9 percent.
The outdated Jelly Bean (4.1.x, 4.2.x and 4.3.x) has 6.9 percent of the share, down 0.7 percent, when compared to last months 7.6 percent. Lastly, Ice Cream Sandwich and Gingerbread dropped 0.1 percent from 0.7 percent, and are now present in 0.6 percent devices.
The Android Distribution numbers are gathered from devices running Android 2.2 accessed the Play Store in a seven-day period ending on September 11, 2017. It's worth mentioning that devices running older Android version like Honeycomb and Froyo are not included. Also devices that don't have Google Play installed like Android phone and tablets in China, are not taken into account as well.
