Android Security Bulletin Is Now Live With The September Security Patch, OTA & System Images To Be Released Soon
Google has updated the Android Security Bulletin with the September security patches. This means that the OTA rollout of the September patch to Nexus, Pixel and Android One devices should begin soon along with the release of the OTA and system images for the Nexus and Pixel devices.
The security patch, as always, is divided into two levels - 2017-09-01 and 2017-09-05. The September 5 dated patch will secure your device the most. The Nexus, Pixel and Android One devices will be getting the September 5 patch.
The most critical vulnerability addressed with the September patches was found to be in media framework wherein a hacker could access device contents with the help of a special file. Google has noted that they aren't aware of any case wherein this vulterability was exploited. The September security patch will be available on AOSP "in the next 7 days." You can hence expect your favorite custom ROMs to incorporate this patch in next week's builds; although many developers have stopped the development of their Nougat based ROM and are now getting their ROM ready for the recently released Oreo.
