The Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 Is Official With An Even More Bezel-Less Display, Sans A Headphone Jack
With the release of the Mi Mix last year, Xiaomi embarked a tradition of bezel-less displays in smartphones. We have come to see the design approach of minimum bezels being adopted by many manufacturers including the likes of Samsung with the S8 and recently released Note 8; and LG with its G6 and V30. Being a first of its kind smartphone, the Mi Mix was more like a conceptual phone with flaws which Xiaomi seems to have ironed out with the Mi Mix 2.
As compared to its predecessor, the Mi Mix 2 has struck down to 5.99" of screen size as compared to 6.44" last year. Xiaomi has also increased the screen to body ratio from 17:9 to 18:9 which had led to the bottom bezel being shrunk by 12%.
Other improvements include adopting an actual speaker instead of the piezoelectric motor we saw in the Mi Mix last year. Just like the Essential Phone, the speaker has somehow been squeezed into the top edge of the phone. The front facing 5MP camera still remains to be at the bottom edge. So you will have to invert the phone upside down to snap a selfie.
The Mi Mix 2 boasts of 64/128/256GB internal memory along with 6GB of RAM or 128GB internal memory with 8GB RAM. The latter model will be a ceramic special edition. All the models of the Mi Mix 2 include Qualcomm's latest and greatest Snapdragon 835, 3400mAh battery, Bluetooth 5.0 and USB-C.
The IPS LCD display has a FULL HD resolution of 2160X1080p. There is a single (no dual camera here) 12MP shooter at the back which includes Sony's IMX386 module along with 4-axis OIS (Object Image Stabilisation).
Although the battery capacity has been reduced by 1000mAh last year, Xiaomi couldn't make out space to fit in the headphone jack. The phone also isn't dust or water resistant. On a positive side, the Mi Mix 2 supports 43 bands which means that the Mi Mix 2 can run on any carrier throughout the world. The Mix 2 runs Nougat 7.1.1 based MIUI 9.
The Mi Mix 2 is available in two color variants - Black and White for the special edition variant while the standard edition of the phone is available in only Black. The pricings are as follows:
6GB 64GB (Aluminium) = €420
6GB 128GB (Aluminium) = €460
6GB 256GB (Aluminium) = €510
8GB 128GB (ceramic special edition = €700.
