Google Is Now Rolling Out October Security Patch For Nexus & Pixel Devices, Factory & OTA Images Available
On the first Monday of every month Google releases a new security patch. These monthly patches are meant to address various security vulnerabilities discovered and make Android a secure OS. Since today stands to be the first Monday of October, we have the security patch for this month.
The Android Security Bulletin has been updated with the October patches. This time around Google has made a special section to list the bugs which have been fixed in the Nexus and Pixel devices. Under the announcements header on the Security Bulletin, Google wrote
We have launched a new monthly Pixel / Nexus Security Bulletin, which contains information on additional security vulnerabilities and functional improvements that are addressed on Pixel and Nexus devices. Android device manufacturers may choose to address these issues on their devices.
As always, the security patches are divided into two levels - October 1 and October 5. The October 5 patch will secure your device the most and this is the security patch which Nexus and Pixel devices will be getting. The most critical vulnerability addressed with these patches was remote code execution (without the user's knowledge) while browsing, sending mails and multimedia messages.
The build numbers of the updates are present below. If you check for the update manually, you should get the OTA notification right away. If for some reason you still wish to flash the update manually, you can check out the factory and OTA images from the links given below in the description. The October security patch would be live on AOSP within the next 48 hours.
