HMD Global Promises Android P Update For All it's Nokia Devices
HMD Global today at the launch of Nokia 8 in Philippines committed to Android P update for all it's Android powered devices. This includes the Nokia 3, 5, 6 and 8. All these Nokia devices are already assured of an Oreo upgrade.
All the HMD-made Nokia handsets (barring the Nokia 3310!) currently run Nougat 7.1.1. It is worth noting here that all these devices get monthly security patches just like Nexus, Pixel and Android One devices.
Although HMD recently dragged itself into controversy, the assurance of Android P update beforehand will give it a well-deserved positive limelight. HMD is setting an example for other device manufacturers - pricing is not always a factor for how long a device should be updated. Consider this, the Nokia 3 is a low segment device priced at $130 (Rs 8500). Apart from the first generation Android One devices (which for a $100 price tag got two major Android upgrades), I haven't come across any Android device at the $100 price point which has been updated for this long.
