Xiaomi India schedules November 2 launch event, Redmi Note 5A expected

Xiaomi has scheduled an event on November 2 for the launch of a new smartphone in India. According to Xiaomi its upcoming smartphone will launch under a new series. Unfortunately, it is not known which smartphone, Xiaomi plans to launch in the country. 

However Tweets sent out by Xiaomi India such as "Your Best self is within you!" and #YourBestSelfie, strongly indicate that Xiaomi's upcoming smartphone will focus on selfie, and run MIUI 9. This phone is likely to be the Redmi Note 5A, that was introduced back in August featuring 16MP front facing camera and selfie flash.

Xiaomi recently launched the Mi MIX 2 in India at Rs. 35,999, a flaghsip product boasting bezel-less design and powerful hardware. It is also Xiaomi's most expensive offering to the Indian market till date. However, with the Redmi Note 5A, the company is again targeting the mid-range market, where it has a stronghold.

To recap the specs, the Redmi Note 5A features 5.5-inch HD display, 1.4GHz octa-core Snapdragon 435 processor, 13MP rear camera with LED flash, fingerprint scanner, 4G VoLTE and 3080mAh battery. It runs Android Nougat based MIUI 9 and comes in two variant: 3GB/32GB and 4GB/64GB. It also has seperate slots for dual-SIM and microSD card, making it Xiaomi's first offering with three-SIM slot design.

In China the Redmi Note 5A price starts at Rs. 8,600, so expect the India pricing of the phone to be below Rs. 10,000.
