Google releases Android 8.1 Developer Preview 2

A month after releasing Android 8.1 Oreo Developer Preview for Pixel and Nexus devices, Google has now rolled out final Android 8.1 Developer Preview 2 for these devices.

The new developer preview includes official APIs (API level 27), the latest optimizations and bug fixes, and November 2017 security patch updates. For Pixel 2 users, the update enables Pixel Visual Core — Google's first custom-designed co-processor for image processing and ML — through a new developer option. Once enabled apps using Android camera API can capture HDR+ shots through Pixel Visual Core.

Android 8.1 Oreo Developer Preview 2 is available for Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL, Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel C, Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P.

As always there is to ways to get the update. Google has posted the Android 8.1 developer preview 2 on the Android developer website, which you download and flash manually. The second way is signing up for beta program, and receiving the update over-the-air. Those who are already part of the beta program are now receiving the update over-the-air.

Google says Android 8.1 final version for the public is planned for December release.
